Amazons (the female warrior types)

August 3rd, 2009 (10:01 pm)
mellow

current location: my ivory tower
current mood: mellow
current song: Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult

So there's a rumour going around on imdb.com that Scarlett Johannsen (Reynolds) is going to play an Amazon in a movie coming out in 2010. This led me to a message board post about who we thought (out of all the actresses we know) could be an Amazon. So here's my list of actresses that I think could be Amazon warriors. :D Cheers!

-Gina Torres (watch Firefly/Serenity and you'll understand why)
-Angelina Jolie (I think this one is pretty self explainatory)
-Lucy Lawless (I think Xena half counts anyways)
-Summer Glau (now, I know she's no where near amazonian proportions, but she can seriously kick ass soooo....she's in)
-Scarlett Johanssen (I know she's short, but I think she could kick some serious ass.)
-Michelle Rodriguez (again with the shortness, but have you seen her in SWAT or even when she kicked that guy's ass in TFatF?)
-Anne Hathaway (as much of a fashionista as she is, she's tall enough, and i think she's got enough grit in her to pull it off)
-Diane Kruger (I needed more blondes)
-Lena Headey
-Megan Fox
-Eva Longoria Parker
-Kate Beckinsale

100 Girl Confessions :

1. Is it cute when guys kiss you on your forehead?
I wouldn't say cute. More like incredibly sweet. And confusing.

2. A big poofy dress or a short party dress?
Short party dress, bit and poofy makes me look short.

3. What would you do if you received a long love letter?
Read it so often the folds would be worn.

4. Group dates or single dates?
Single dates, definately.

5. Do you hate it when guys act different around their friends?
Depends on how different. I get it that guys are going to be a little more crass and obnoxious when they're with all their testosterone buddies. Just so long as it's not Jekyl and Hyde.

6. Are diamonds a girl’s best friend?
Diamonds, emeralds, saphires, rubies, pearls...those are a girl's best friends.

7. Is your hair up or down today?
Up in a bun.

8. Do you straighten your hair?
Not often. I'm too lazy and it takes too long. Besides, I like my curls.

9. Favorite mascara?
Bad Gal Lash by Benefit

10. Do you get your nails done?
I'm too cheap and acrylics and I don't get along well.

11. Small or large purses?
Both. Large for the day and all the crap we have to carry around, and small for the evening when we go out and coat check costs a fortune.

12. In your purse, what are your must haves?
Keys. Phone. Wallet. Chapstick. Pen and paper.

13. Jeans or sweats?
Jeans unless I feel really lazy and out of it, then it's sweats.

14. Do you wear clothes/shoes/jewelry that’s uncomfortable?
Occasionaly heels, but that's just until they're broken in. And besides, they're pretty.

15. Do you text message a lot?
Not all that much anymore.

16. What would you do if you got pregnant?
Keep the baby. But other than that, I'm not too sure right now.

17. What’s your favorite colour?
I have several: Red, Purple, Green, Brown, Black.

18. Heels or flats?
Both. Flats for driving (I don't care what anyone says it's freakin' impossible to drive stick in heels) running around on errands stuff like that. Heels for going out, dinner with the girls, weddings, stuff like that.

19. Did you ever cry during a romantic movie?
Anyone who knows me even a little bit should be able to answer this: Yes.

20. Would you ever leave the house without make-up on?
Ahhh, the joys of glasses, they cover your under eye circles for you. =D

21. Walmart or Target?
Neither. They're both American companies that drain the Canadian ecomony. (Although if I had to chose, it'd be Target).

22. Do you wear collared shirts?
Two dress shirts and a polo shirt. So I think I can safely say "no".

23. Do you like preppy boys?
Mmmm...I tend to dislike them on principle...they tend to be rich and I'm not. However, I'm willing to look past that if they're not complete frat boy douche-bags.

24. Do you think lip gloss is the best?!
Mmmmm, I'm kinda switching to lipstick now. Gloss gets a little too stick

25. Do you own any big sunglasses?
Hellz yea!

26. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
Without breakfast: almost an hour. With breakfast: An hour and and a half.

27. Do you like to wear band-aids?
It's not so much that I like to wear Band-Aids, so much as I'd rather wear them than have a gross infection.

28. Do you like skater boys?
About the same way I like moquitoes....and mosquitoes are the bane of the earth so I'll let you fill in the blanks.

29. Do you often wish there was something you could change?
About my sef? No. Well, a little more will power would be nice, but I'm working on that.

30. Gold or silver?
White gold. Or platinum. Platiunum is good.

31. Do you like to receive flowers?
Yup. Just so long as they're not roses.

32. Do you like surfer boys?
They're cute. Don't know if I'd date any though.

33. Do you dress up for the holidays?
Definately. I love summer, don't get me wrong, but winter just has more holidays.

34. Do you like to wear dresses?
Yup. I like looking pretty.

35. On a scale of 1-10 how much do guys confuse you?
About a 5 or 6. Sometimes they're easy to understand and other times I feel like banging my head against a brick wall would be easier.

36. In the last 48 hours have you hung out with a guy?
Yes. Phil's party was awesome.

37. Would you date a guy shorter than you?
I'm on the short side as it is...so finding said guy would be kinda hard and then just kinda awkward...

38. Do you like to hold hands?
It's sweet.

39. What is the youngest you would date?
I can't date anyone younger than me. Too much bullshit and immaturity. Same goes for guys my age and a year older. or so I've noticed so far.

40. What is the oldest you would date?
6 years older than me. I'm trying to find a guy who's 3-5 years older. I'm done with all the bullshit and drama.

41. What do you notice when you first meet a guy?
Voice, eyes, smile, hands, clothes...generally in that order too.

42. Is it hott when guys sweat?
This so depends on the guy.

43. What is the best feature in a guy?
Voice....if a guy's got a sexy voice I'm hooked. And then eyes.

44. Do you like making eye contact?
I think that if you don't make eye contact when you're talking to someone it's just weird. But too much eye contact is weird. But I'd say that I make a lot of eye contact just out of habit, not out of preference or anything.

46. Would you kill for chocolate?
No, but I might do some serious damage.

47. Did you ever spend all day/night getting pretty for a guy?
I have in the past. Not sure if I will again. Aw, who am I kidding? We all know I will.

48. On a scale from 1-10 how fun is shopping?
Usually it's about and 8. Dress shopping with a bunch of girlfriends however is like an 11.

49. Do you freak out if you miss your favorite show?
I only watch 3 or 4 shows. Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill (that's a new show for me), CSI: NY and either Castle or America's Next Top Model (when it's on). But I don't freak out if I miss them. I can find them online afterwards. Or I tape them. Either one.

50. Do you yell a lot?
Usually only when I get pissed off...so a fair bit.

51. Would you wear sweatpants/pajamas to school/work?

55. Do you fall in love easily?
I fall in like pretty quick, but I fall out of it just as fast.

59. When was the last time a guy had his arm around you for more than a minute?
Few weeks.

60. Are glasses a turn off?

How things have changed...

February 25th, 2009 (09:10 pm)
saddened

current location: my ivory tower
current mood: saddened
current song: Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith

It's strange when you see pictures of someone that you haven't seen at all for the last 4 years. You look at them, where they are, what they're doing, and you realise how some things never and won't ever change. It's even stranger when the person you're looking at was your first love. The person you took ages and ages to get over. And now when you look at them, you that if you were to meet them in the street, you wouldn't rush up for a hug like you always thought you would. You'd hold yourself back, stiff, and awkward, and then both of you would realise that you can never go back. Only forward, and that sometimes when you're moving forward, you're also moving away. And so is the other person. Someone that you once saw as having so much potential, you just see as a burnout, even at 21. At it'll sadden you, because you know that they could have been better, and a part of you will wonder if you could have somehow saved them. But you'll know that you can't really save anyone who doesn't want to be saved. They have to do that on their own. And then you'll smile, and say that you have to jet because you're already running late, and you'll walk by them with a wave and a nod, and a goodbye. Not a "see you later", because you know in your heart that you won't. If you see them again, it will only be in passing, and you probably won't acknowledge them. Your shades will be on and you'll be talking to someone else, and you're so good at avoiding eye contact that your eyes will slide right by them as you turn to laugh at something your friend has just said. Or if you're alone, your phone will suddenly ring, on vibrate of course, and you'll answer it all bubbly and cheerful and sweet like it's the love of your life on the other end, whether you actually have one or not, and they'll know, just as you did at one point, that there's no going back. And that everything and everyone changes. At that will be the end.

Enough of this shit

February 22nd, 2009 (08:01 pm)
irritated

current location: my ivory tower
current mood: irritated
current song: Let It Be - The Beatles

Ok. So since I have no desire to start WWIII on facebook, I'm going to post this rant here.

Enough with the Rihanna deserved the beating Chris Brown gave her. Enough with the stupid rumours, of she gave him herpes, and she's pregnant, and she hit him first, and the rest of that shit.
Domestic violence is never justifiable. Saying that she provoked him because he found out she gave him herpes or some shit like that only serves to further prove your ignorance.
The worst part is all the girls and women on sites like facebook who are openly supporting Chris Brown and his actions against Rihanna. Not only are they suggesting that she deserved it, but they are saying that he didn't do it, or he was provoked into reacting that way (by Rihanna of course), but that this will make him a better man.
So supposedly, Chris Brown is innocent, but Rihanna deserved what she got. Hmmm, bit of a contradiction there, no?
Being provoked is not excuse for your actions. As a 19 year-old adult, who is constantly in the public eye he should conduct himself in a way that is fitting of his age and status.
If you want to support Chris Brown as a musician, fine. Go ahead. But don't support his violent actions against another human. In no way is it right or justifiable.
And fuck, people, if you're going to try and make a rebuttal to my comments or anyone else who doesn't support Chris Brown and his actions, try to at least type at the level of a grade 5 student and not like a delinquent 8 year old. And there's this little thing called punctuation. It makes your arguments exponentially easier to read; and please, use proper spelling. It's easier for the rest of us, who have IQs over 100 to understand your deranged ramblings when we can actually understand what you've typed.

New Names

January 19th, 2009 (10:25 pm)

Ok, so here are the names that I think would be nice for my kids, when I have some.

Boys:
*James Andrew - So if I have my way one of my boys is going to get the english version of Jacques-André (the prof who had the most profound impact on me educationally and as a person. Monsieur, l'intelligence, c'est la capacité de s'adapter).
Gabriel Logan - Gabriel is a nice, strong name, and Logan, I dunno, I just like it, probably why it's in the list twice.
Brand Cooper
- Brand instead of Brandon cuz i know too many idiot brandons. And I like "er" ending names.
Logan Oliver - Logan again, good strong, solid, masculine name. Oliver...just sounds right.
*Jagger Marley - Yeah yeah, two musicians, but damn it they're god damn good musicians!!! And no one else will be named Jagger I can guarantee you that.

Girls:
*Kyra Evangéline - Kyra's strong, and Evangéline is from a song about the Acadiens that always makes me cry.
Isabelle Blaire - Isabelle is a wonderful, strong name but really pretty too. And Blaire is for GG, cuz she's beautiful and a bitch too.
Andrea Jayne - Jayne for my favourite mercenary "the man they call jayne" and Andrea because it's beautiful and pretty too.
*Layla Beth - She'll have two songs, Eric Clapton's "Layla" and KISS' "Beth". And they're both pretty, unique names.

* = my favourite names right now. Looks like I'm going to have to have 2 boys and 2 girls. Although I would appreciate it if Layla and Jagger were twins.

So here's an update of what the names mean and what (in general) people think of when they hear these names.

BOYS:

Jagger: carter, peddlar ; cool, handsome, wild, popular & creative
Marley: from the boundary field ; creative, funny, popular, handsome & cool

James: supplanter ; handsome, funny, intelligent, caring & cool
Andrew: manly ; [first apostle of christ] ; handsome, funny, cool, intelligent & caring

Gabriel: god is my strength ; handsome, intelligent, caring, funny & trustworthy
Logan: from the hollow ; handsome, intelligent, funny, popular & cool

Brand: sword ; [short for Brandon; symbol of ownership] ; aggressive, cool, handsome, powerful & popular
Cooper: barrel maker ; handsome, sporty, funny, cool & popular

Oliver: elf army ; handsome, intelligent, funny, caring & cool

GIRLS:

Layla: night, black ; pretty, creative, intelligent, exotic & funny
Beth: god is my oath ; [short for Elizabeth]pretty, funny, caring, intelligent & creative

Kyra: lady ; [fem. form of Kyros] ; pretty, funny, creative, caring & intelligent
Evangeline: messenger of good news ; pretty, elegant, intelligent, caring & creative

Isabelle: god is my oath ; pretty, intelligent, elegant, caring & funny
Blair: Field, plain ; pretty, popular, funny, intelligent & cool

Andrea: manly ; [fem. form of Andrew]pretty, funny, caring, intelligent & creative
Jayne: god is gracious ; funny, pretty, caring, popular & cool

*So yeah, I think I pick some pretty awesome names. Except for maybe Brand, but that's ok. Jagger Marley and Layla Beth are still my first picks for names, followed by James Andrew and Kyra Evangeline. But I like all these names, obviously.

Sadism and Masochism

December 23rd, 2008 (11:04 pm)
contemplative

current location: my lonely tower
current mood: contemplative

Sometimes I'm sure that I'm a sadist and others I'm simply positive that I'm a masochist.

I'm a sadist because I take pleasure in other people's pain. Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not the type to watch someone with a bullet hole in them and laugh or something like that, but it's more the little things. Like flirting with a guy and then not going home with him. Being a tease. And yes, sometimes causing physical pain amuses me.

And then there are times where I think I'm a masochist as well. I'll look at my ex-boyfriends FB page for picture of him and the girl he's dating now (only three months broken up...I thought I'd take a little more time to get over than that). The pictures don't send me into tears or fits of depression, but rather it's like I'm cutting the ties he had on me and my heart and my soul by trying to make myself hate him. I've driven past his house before too. Only once and I was in a bad mood from being stood up by a friend who also happens to be the first guy I loved. But still. I look at those pictures knowing full well that it's going to prick me. And maybe it would have been better if they had started to show up before I broke up with him.

The thing about being a masochist is that I don't enjoy pain inflicted on me by others. And I don't enjoy it when I inflict it upon myself either, but I inflict it nonetheless. Maybe that means that I am a sadist in that I enjoy inflicting pain or watching others in pain.

Statuses on FB and how they shouldn't be taken too literally or at all.

December 21st, 2008 (05:41 pm)

This morning, because of the glorious and constant snowfall, I changed my FB status to  "Loren is sooooo loving the snow!! Global Warming my ass!!"
Of course two people, with whom I'm not actually friends with at all, more like an aquaintances and a friend of a friend.
The first person (the friend of a friend) felt the need to explain to me (in the hopes that I was already aware of the facts) that global warming was not a warming of the entire earth, but rather a change in the patterns of the Earth's climate. And that it was, in fact, thanks to global warming that Vancouver (which usually has a variation of snow to slush) was receiving so much snowfall.
The second person was much more succint. "It's called climate change.  And Vancouver has had white Christmases before."
To the first person, there is no actual proof besides circumstantial evidence that global warming is occuring because of humans. Contrary to what many governments would like us to believe, the earth's climate goes through natural cycles. For the dinosaurs to have once walked the earth, the climate would have had to be much different. Think tropical and hot. Secondly, the earth also has these marvelous little periods called Ice Ages. So it's little wonder that climate patterns change over time. The sun has a greater effect on earth than humans do as well. I do not buy the theory that CO2 emissions which have risen due to human consumption are responsible for the change in climate. Hell, plants thrive on CO2, so one would think that this would almost be beneficial.
To the second person: they've only recently started calling it climate change instead of global warming. Funny huh? Oh, and have you noticed how they've stopped talking about the hole in the ozone layer? Another one of those funny little things. And I am fully aware of the fact that Vancouver has had white Christmases before. But the last white Christmas that was actually white and not that grey-ish half-melted slush was 1996. Over a decade ago. So yes, we've had Chirstmases that were white, but not to this extent in a long while. So shut up.

So today I threw out the roses I'd kept from the boquets you gave me when you'd screwed up (all two of them) and the rose from the boquet for our 1 year anniversary. I threw out the birthday cards from you, and the Valentine's day one too. They're all gone, because I'm so done with you. And the funny thing is, I didn't even feel anything. It was just like, "I'm cleaning my room, might as well take these flowers out."
And then chucking the cards, was like lifting a weight from my heart. Odd. Because at one point they made me cry with emotion. Now I just wonder if part of me knew all along that we weren't meant to be.

Rediscovered and found again movies

November 26th, 2008 (01:47 pm)
bored/nostalgic

current location: 5th Floor of the AQ
current mood: bored/nostalgic
current song: Boom Di Ah Dah - in my head.

So once upon a time, I watched this amazing (in my opinion) pirate movie on TV.  It had everything a little girl who wasn't really that into Barbies could want. The lead was this kick-ass female pirate. There were swordfights, skirmish after skirmish, entire towns destroyed in the first half, and finally a wonderfully climatic gun battle between two ships at sea. The bonus: it was somewhere tropical, and exotic and so other-worldly that it had to exist, somewhere, if only just off the edge of the map.
This movie was Cuttthroat Island. Yes, the movie that probably started my pirate obsession well before Mr. Depp began swaggering and staggering around in too much eye-liner, is also in the Guiness Book of World Records as the biggest box office flop ever. Frankly, I can't see why. Worse films than this (those stupid Scary Movie films and that kind of crap) have done better at the box-office.
It's a freakin' awesome movie and if you get the time you should seriously watch it on yout... *shifty eyes* that website that you [can] tube on....

At another time, I watched this western style movie where two women are kidnapped by Sioux braves and taken more or less as slaves to the village. I remember exactly 4 scenes from this TV movie, and was completely unsuccessful at finding it for the last 10 years. Sad, I know. And then, luck decided that I should find this movie again. Random surfing on youtube lead me to see clips, and the start of a TV movie called "Stolen Woman Captured Hearts" and then while watching the fan made music videos for it, I realised that THIS was the movie that I occasionaly thought about and wished to high heaven that I could find again. Awesome, awesome film IMO. Short, but poignant and sweet. Well worth the watch.
